The Healthy Way to Gain Weight

 

Some people find it difficult to gain weight.  Some tips to try are:

 

·        Drink protein-rich beverages (e.g. milk-based fruit shakes).  Have fruit juices between meals.

 

·        Munch on nuts and seeds, which are high in calories and many other nutrients.

 

·        Avoid large amounts of high-calorie, high-fat foods because they will lead to weight gain and possible health consequences.

 

·        Keep physically active so that muscle, and not fat, is gained.

 

·        Eat small portions of food throughout the day to help stimulate a poor appetite.  Don’t set unrealistic goals by placing a large portion of food on the plate.

 

·        Coax the appetite back - don't force it.

 

Anyone concerned about his/her weight should consult a dietitian.  Unexplained weight loss could be a sign of illness. Those continuing to lose weight should see their doctor.
